What Is a Phobia?

A phobia is an intense and ongoing fear of something even if it’s not truly dangerous… As you may now. You might avoid swimming pools because you fear water, or avoid elevators because you're scared of small spaces.


Phobias can start from a bad experience (like a dog bite or fear on a plane), or from watching someone else react with fear like a parent who’s scared of bugs or flying.
